BATCHWOOD Girls Under 10s team booked their place in the National Junior Club League regional final with an emphatic display.

The team of Lucy Wright, Lucy Booth, Georgie Walker and Georgie Axon, battled hard to win their region final against Eastbourne Park at Batchwood Golf and Tennis Centre, Batchwood Drive, St Albans on Thursday, July 24.

Following convincing victories by Georgie Axon and Georgie Walker in doubles and Lucy Booth and Georgie Axon in singles the Batchwood team took an early lead 3-1.

Lucy Booth and Lucy Wright narrowly missed a win in their doubles match after a close deciding set tie break.

The final singles match between Batchwood's Georgie Walker and Eastbourne's Louisiana Vine was both close and tense with Georgie prevailing in the tie break.

Batchwood coach Jon Meredith said: "The girls have trained very hard all year for this and we have a great chance of winning the National title. The matches were close and the Batchwood girls all showed guts and mental toughness to overcome their south coast counterparts. Thanks must go to the parents who have helped support and organise the matches and the players for showing such promise."

The Under 10 girls will be joined in the national final by the Batchwood boys Under 16s team who will also make the trip up to Nottingham in September"
