CITY bounced back from last weekend's FA Cup disappointment with a good away win at Weston-super-Mare.

Goals from Luke Thurlbourne, Gary Cohen and Solomon Shields sealed City's second away league win on the bounce in a lively game at the Woodspring Stadium.

Alex Bailey recovered from illness to take his place on the right hand side of midfield while James Fisher returned from suspension with Godfrey Poku and Daniel Chillingworth dropping down to the bench while Justin Clayton made his debut in place of Mark Peters.

A slip by Clayton just nine minutes in allowed Ben Joyce in behind but his cross was cleared by Ryan Frater. Bartlett picked up the ball out wide and swung in a cross that Clayton did well to hook behind for a corner.

City took the lead with their first real attack in the 21st minute. Clayton did well to intercept a ball on the halfway line before releasing Bailey down the right. He found James Fisher who whipped the ball in for Cohen and, although the striker's diving header came back off the bar, Weston were unable to clear their lines and Thurlbourne lashed the ball home from close range for his first goal in City colours.

Weston hit back and a clever pass from Bartlett nearly got Joyce in behind but Clayton nipped in to clear.

The home side drew level in the 30th minute with a delicious free kick from Jack Compton. Clayton was punished for a foul on the edge of the box and the Weston wide man curled the ball home from 20 yards.

There was nearly a repeat performance two minutes later but Compton's effort was deflected wide for a corner which City were able to clear comfortably.

The goal sparked Weston to life and when a long ball forward was knocked down by Darren Mullings, Joyce struck a rasping effort that only just cleared Paul Bastock's crossbar.

A City corner four minutes before the break should have provided a second goal but Frater's header flew wide of the goal while at the other end Bastock had to be alert to race off his line and clear at the feet of Joyce after the striker had capitalised on another slip by Clayton.

The half time interval seemed to come at the right time for City and they looked a lot livelier after the break.

Steve Castle's side regained the lead in the 60th minute with a lovely goal. A City corner was cleared out to Thurlbourne who laid it back to Frater on the halfway line. The City skipper sprayed a delightful pass out to Bailey who fired the ball across the face of goal for Cohen to bundle the ball home for his first goal in 20 games.

A lapse in concentration by Clayton saw the defender dispossessed on the halfway line but, with substitute Josh Llewellyn bearing down on goal, Ryan Frater slid in to put it behind.

A Compton free kick caused problems in the City box but Llewellyn's effort looped over the bar.

Almost immediately City went down the other end and added a third. Fisher fired the ball in from the right and Seagulls' stopper Gary Sawyer could only punch the ball onto O'Donnell's head. Shields picked the ball up eight yards out and rifled it into the bottom corner.

Weston pulled one back six minutes from time when Compton's free kick out on the right was headed into his own net by Quilter.

A short throw by Everitt found Shields free 20 yards out on the right but the City midfielder's effort went over the bar.

At the other end Llewellyn latched onto a Fortune long ball but Frater put the Weston man under enough pressure to force him to shoot wide.

Weston pushed for an equaliser and probably should have had one when a long throw from Tom Evans was flicked on by Fortune but Llewellyn, free in the six yard box, directed his header over the bar.

City saw out the game to claim a welcome three points and with it a great boost to the squad's morale.
