COLNEY Heath skipper Anthony Muthusamy earned the praise of manager Scott Lacey after marking an emotional occasion with a decisive goal at Brimsdown Rovers on Saturday.

The Magpies were not at their fluent best in the opening 45 minutes but went in ahead at the break thanks to a spectacular strike from defender Muthusamy who was returning to the side after a family bereavement last week. Management duo Lacey and Wesley Awad have been delighted with the contribution of their talismanic captain this season and Lacey said: "It was very emotional. On behalf of everyone at Colney Heath our condolences go out to Ant and his family. The goal was from a corner we have worked on in training and Ant was in acres of space. He chested the ball down and volleyed it into the top corner. It was really nice for him and all credit goes to him for the way he played."

Muthusamy's leadership qualities have been evident in the good run of form at Colney Heath in recent weeks and Lacey said: "It was my choice to make him skipper and time and time again he just proves why he should be. He came up at Harefield and smashed in an equaliser for me and he scored an absolute world-class strike on Saturday when we needed it. He deserves all the credit.
