ST ALBANS light-heavyweight Joe Smyth wracked up his sixth straight win with an impressive performance in his latest fight in Watford.

Smyth's clash with Jevgenis Andrejevs from Latvia gave him the chance to make a statement.

Andrejevs had given top-rated Courtney Fry a hard night's work and decked Tony Bellew before dropping a points decision on his previous visits to Britain.

Smyth had no trouble though dominating the four-round fight from the opening bell and the St Albans hitter had Andrejevs wobbling when left hooks connected flush in the third.

Andrejevs was able to survive until the final bell but the referee's scorecard read 40-36, meaning Smyth won every round.

"It was a good win," said the former England amateur international. "I gave him a boxing lesson. He didn't lay a glove on me, but he was really tough.

"I hit him cleanly with some big shots and he just smiled at me!

"He kept coming forward all the time, but I was never in any trouble."

Smyth expects to be back in the ring in November and manager and promoter Mickey Helliet is lining up a crack at the Southern Area light-heavyweight title next year.
