St George’s School pupil Chloe Alvis won a silver medal in the British Judo Junior Championships.

Alvis, 16, went into the U21 competition unranked as she is in a new weight group but proceeded to win all her fights in the first and second rounds.

In the final round, she suffered a loss to the second ranked fighter, Jodie Caller, which resulted in her finished second in the pool After losing one fight by a penalty last weekend at the British U18 Championships, meaning she was knocked out of the final and could only get bronze, Alvis was “delighted” with the result and has been offered a place on the GB junior squad.

A member of Redbridge and St Albans judo clubs, Alvis is on the Hertfordshire Talented Athlete Programme at the University of Hertfordshire
