SHENLEY Village finally ended their run of drawn games with a hard-fought 18-run win at the picturesque Totteridge Green ground in Division Three on Saturday.

The Shenley openers Anooj Vadgama and Craig Rawlings got the visitors off to a good start before Rawlings was controversially given out lbw for 33. Vadgama kept up the good scoring before falling for 65.

Captain Jemile Al-Darraji hit 22 but the wickets fell in quick succession until Shenley were all out for 195 from 47 overs. Imran Khan (4-43), Sameen Khan (2-33) and Shakeel Derrani (2-34) were the best of the Totteridge Millhillians bowlers.

Shenley's Pasha Ali - playing against his former club - took the early wicket of Iqbal and Ahmed and Derrani quickly followed.

Ahmedzai (43) and Kalber (29) then frustrated the Shenley bowlers before the former was finally caught on the boundary by Rawlings off the bowling of James Davenall.

Towards the end of the game, with the home side closing in on the Shenley total, play was interrupted by the arrival of a swarm of flying ants, which the groundsman endeavoured to disperse while the players took a well-earned rest.

The unscheduled break in play seemed to turn the match in Shenley's favour. On the resumption, Al Darraji (3-42) took a wicket and Davenall (4-24) swept up the tail leaving TMs all out for 177.

The win moves Shenley two places up the league table to 13th. Shenley host North Enfield at the Shenley Cricket Centre on Saturday with a 1.30pm start.
