Shenley Village 211-6 (53) Waltham X Rosedale 50-10 (28.1)

SHENLEY Village, playing on the main Compton ground at the Shenley Cricket Centre, matched their glorious surroundings with an impressive 161-run win over Waltham X Rosedale.

Batting first, the home side quickly recovered from the early loss of newly-appointed captain Jemile Al-Darraji, with fellow opener Baqar Rizvi making 44.

Solid middle-order batting from Ryan Hammill, unbeaten on 67 and Liam Willingham, making an entertaining 32, helped them to amass a respectable total of 211-6 off 53 overs. Zala was the best of the bowlers, with figures of 2-45 and Patel bowled 11 maidens from his 18 overs to restrict the Shenley run rate.

Somewhat against the form book, with the visitors topping the division while Shenley began the day requiring the win to move upwards towards the safer reaches of the table, the home side did not disappoint.

Spinner Baqar Rizvi took advantage of the unexpectedly warm and sunny afternoon, taking an outstanding seven wickets for just 21, making him the man of the match and helping to dismiss Waltham Cross for just 50, with contributions from Al Darraji (1 for 23) and Imran Yousaf (1 for 0).

Having collected maximum points for the win, Shenley gave themselves an outside chance of promotion from Division Three. They continue their campaign on Saturday when they travel to Cavendish for a 1pm start.
