SHENLEY Village battled for a draw at home to Eversholt on Saturday in Division Three of the Herts League.
The home side won the toss and after choosing to field, struck to claim the wicket of Nicholls, caught behind off the bowling of Jemile Al-Darraji for a duck.
The next wicket to fall was that of the talented Zimbabwean Mazerwazi, run out for 15. Tight bowling by the openers kept the run rate down during the early stages of the innings.
However, Eversholt pushed on, with Kerr top-scoring with 92 before finally being removed by spinner Baqar Rizvi (3-35).
A. Litchfield (one of three Litchfield brothers turning out for the visitors) made 36. Al-Darraji bowled 26 overs unchanged for his 2-109. Eversholt eventually posted a challenging total of 229-8 off 53 overs.
For the home side, Anooj Vadgama and Rizvi got off to a flying start, before Rizvi went for one shot too many when on 25. Ali (0) and Rawlings (9) swiftly followed Rizvi back to the pavilion.
Vadgama made 63 (bowled by Avis, the pick of the Eversholt bowlers with 3-53). Hamill (12) and Al-Darraji (14) put up some resistance and then Liam Willingham (27) hit some lovely shots, including a six, towards the end of the innings.
Under threatening skies, the tail-enders managed to hold on for the draw, finishing on 186-9. Shenley's efforts moved them up the Division Three table by one place.
