CHRIS Seeby made his 200th St Albans City appearance on Saturday in the 4-0 victory over Frome Town and admitted it was a very proud moment for him.

The 27-year-old has started the season in good form for The Saints following a frustrating time of things last term in which he suffered a fractured jaw.

The defender, who played for St Albans City Youth before having a spell with Watford, told The Herts Advertiser: “I’m very proud, when I came back from Watford I came here as a 17/18-year-old boy, I’ve had a few injuries since then but to make 200 is a very proud moment.”

Looking at the start of this current campaign, in which City drew 2-2 with Banbury United, defeated Cambridge City 3-2 and thumped Frome Town, he added: “We probably would have taken four points from the first two games, but we were hoping to beat Banbury [in the league opener] really.

“Today [Saturday] we started off really well scoring early, we’ve had two good home performances on the bounce so hopefully we will pick up from there.”

Seeby almost put the icing on the cake on the landmark occasion by going close to netting. He added: “I nearly scored, that would have been a good omen on my 200th game, but the keeper pulled off a good save from my header, but all in all the team played well to get the three points.”

Seeby and the City back four were delighted with keeping their first clean sheet of the season on Saturday.

“We were disappointed to let in a couple of set-pieces in the first two games,” he said.

“At half-time [against Frome] the gaffer said to us to make sure we keep a clean sheet and luckily we did.

“The whole back four and keeper were really strong so that was pleasing.”

Of his dependable right-back, Saints manager David Howell added: “He had the problem with a hairline fracture to his jaw last season, but after a slow start in pre-season he’s got into his stride and he’s been different class.”

Of the local lad playing for his home town team, Howell added: “If it can help encourage some of the local players who think they’ve got a chance of playing for St Albans City Football Club and they’re good enough all’s well.”
