Sandridge’s run chase falls 13 short
Sandridge suffered a second defeat of the season in a nail-biting contest at a wet and windy Spencer Meadows ground against Southgate Compton.
Looking to take advantage of all of the other games in the division being abandoned, Peters looked to take the initiative by inserting the opposition and found success when White snared Compton’s skipper and Merryfield held on to a smart chance at gully off Murphy.
Despite bowling well and pouching a third wicket courtesy of a White slip catch, Sandridge struggled to break through a mix of determined defence and aggressive attack as Compton posted 182-4 with a wicket coming from a run out on the last ball.
What seemed like a tough total off 34 overs became a lot less daunting as Rothery and new opening partner Narula, moved up the order to provide the necessary impetus, make short work of the opposition bowling.
Despite losing Narula and Merryfield, Peters continued to ensure the Ridge remained ahead of the run rate and at 80-2 the home side looked set to overhaul the target.
However, a couple of umpiring decision changed the pace.
First, Rothery was given out LBW and then Camm was given run out despite the umpire’s view being obstructed.
