ROBBIE Heywood scored the winner as Sandridge Rovers defeated Baldock Town at the Spencer Recreation Ground on Tuesday.

Manager Kevin Barton had his strongest squad of the season so far and was delighted to see an entertaining clash, with both teams performing well. He said: "We had some nice comments and the referee's secretary Mr Norman Appleby said it was the best game he had seen in six years. It was great football played at a great tempo and both teams did really well. It could have gone either way."

Heywood netted the decisive goal from a training-ground corner routine, securing a second consecutive league win for Sandridge. Both Chris Wickens and Chris Wilding had chances to extend the lead but Sandridge were also reliant on some fine goalkeeping to seal the points with a clean sheet.

l On Saturday Rovers were unfortunate to go down 3-1 to Met Police Bushey in the Aubrey Cup Second Round.

l Rovers put in a five-star show to crush Bedmond Sports & Social at the Spencer Recreation Ground on Thursday, August 21.

Attacking midfielder Tom Clark scored twice and Chris Wickens also notched two, with Chris Wilding completing the rout. The sides fought out a tough first half and went in level at 1-1, before Rovers came out and turned on the style in the second period.

Clark was given the freedom to attack from midfield and his two goals justified the decision. Barton said: "We are trying to play good football and we played five across the midfield so Tom had licence to roam. Really and truthfully we should have scored more than five because we missed a penalty and had several other opportunities to score."

Sandridge go away to Bovingdon in the Premier Division on Saturday and Barton will have close to a full squad. Kick off is 3pm.
