Preston II 183-9 Sandridge 185-3

Sandridge win by seven wickets.

SANDRIDGE secured a comprehensive win against promotion chasing rivals Preston II on Saturday.

‘Ridgers skipper Peter Camm lost the toss again and was slightly surprised to be asked to bowl first. John Murphy proceeded to bowl his best spell of the season and given he passed the outside edge on many occasions could consider himself unlucky to pick up only two wickets in his 17 over spell which cost only 33 runs.

Murphy was well supported with the new ball at the other end by Rick Panting. Preston’s third wicket partnership put on 116 but effective bowling from Lennie Peters and David Muskett ensured that they were not allowed to push on. Peters (3-56) eventually broke through thanks to an excellent boundary catch by Sam Shephard and Muskett (3-50) was rewarded with a hat-trick - two clean bowled and an lbw - highlighting the good lines he’d bowled throughout his spell.

Preston, who had been 158-2, completed their 53 overs on 183-9.

In reply Camm (27) and Paul Rothery, who is in great form, put on 109 for the second wicket.

Rothery’s 87* contained 14 fours while Ian Merryfield’s quickfire 24 maintained the momentum. Lennie Peters chipped in with 25* to see Sandridge home in the 35th over to complete a win which pushed Sandridge back up to third place in Division Six.
