St Albans City are ready to put the future of the club in the hands of James Gray and Graham Golds.

The pair, who took over as caretaker managers from David Howell in October 2013 before taking on the job full-time, are being lined up for contracts after two years of success.

After taking over a side decimated by departures in the wake of Howell’s sacking, Gray and Golds have managed the Saints to promotion to the Conference South and have been in the top half of the table for the majority of the season so far.

There has also been a trip to the first round proper of the FA Cup and a good run in last year’s FA Trophy.

All in all, chairman Nick Archer and the club’s owners, Lawrence Levy and John McGowan, want the duo to continue to succeed at Clarence Park.

It’s not just the on-field success that he enamoured St Albans City with Gray and Golds, it’s also their tireless work off it.

“They are working incredibly hard for us on and off the pitch with player availability, recruitment, the loan market, talking to players – it’s a massive amount of work to do, especially on a part-time basis,” he said.

“Jimmy and Graham haven’t managed at his level before but there are a lot of positives at the moment – that’s all credit to them.”
