OA Saints extended their lead atop Championship South East 2 to 15 points after a 24-5 win at second-placed Blackheath on Sunday.

The Saints are promotion favourites with six games left in the season. Blackheath, who have a game in hand, will undoubtedly still have their say in the final standings, as will third-placed Hampstead, who are 18 points back but have played two games less than Saints.

Still, they will need the unbeaten OAs to slip up to gain ground and from Saturday’s performance, any let up seems unlikely.

That being said, the Saints were guilty of handing Blackheath the lead, but they responded immediately as Nicky Cameron scythed her way through to the defence to touch down.

Neither side could add to their points totals for the remainder of the first half and the teams turned around level at five-all. After the break, however, that all changed and OAs took control of the contest.

Ange Wadham sent Robyn King over in the first minute of the second half and Robertson added the extras. Blackheath played their part in an exciting tie but they couldn’t shake off the shackles of Saints’ defence.

A lineout drive from the hosts was turned against them and resulted in Claire McKenna racing down the flank to extend OA’s lead to 17-5. And the game was put beyond doubt when Sophie Tyler broke clear to go over.
