ST ALBANS ended their three game losing streak with a draw at home to Stevenage.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bowl under overcast skies and on a green wicket at Clarence Park

Amit Dattani struck in his first over clean bowling Matt Howeson for a duck and when Davies followed that with Dan Nichols caught behind by David Carr in his second over the Saints were 1-2. When Matt Barnes (9) was caught by Dattani at second slip St Albans were in real trouble at 14-3.

In came the experienced duo of Phil Caley and former Stevenage player Murtaza Hussain.

Caley and Hussain put on 33 before Azhar Ali tempted Hussain to cut at a delivery that was neither quite short nor wide enough allowing Carr to cling on to an under edge.

Jim Chaudry came and went in quick time with Nasir Khan bowling him for 11 off his thigh pad.

It was the Caley and Kervin Marc partnership that got St Albans out of a lot of trouble at 66-5.

Caley batted strongly and assuredly in making 62 and Marc, also a former Stevenage player, gave him good support in making 32.

At 137 it was Marc who was first out, trapped lbw by Ali and five runs later Ali did for Caley, turning a delivery past an attempted sweep to knock back the off-stump.

Martin Jones and Ben Ramsey put on a valuable 27 runs before the surprise introduction of Naseer Ahmed did for Jones (11).

Eleven runs later and St Albans were 180 all-out with Syed Ali Kazmi picking up the last two wickets of Ramsey (25) and Fogarty (3).

Faced with two former team mates in Marc and Hussain the Stevenage opening pair of Carr and Laurie Brown got Stevenage off to a solid start sharing a 59-run stand.

Carr (28) was the first out driving Kris Cummins to Marc at mid-off.

Brown (25) was the first of Hussain's five wickets without another run being added.

Ahmed and Kazmi looked to be putting Stevenage back on top, after the tea break, but the crazy run out of Kazmi for 8 followed by the cheap dismissal of Navin Seneviratne (6) and then Ahmed for 23 put Stevenage back in the mire.

An impressive 42-run stand between Khan (28) and Jason Chapman (15) looked like it had changed the course of the game again, but two wickets fell in quick succession. Khan was bowled by Hussain and then Chapman to a high full toss which ballooned off the back of the bat to Barnes at gully.

Both Ali and Richard Curtis hit boundaries in their shared 14-run stand but when Hussain removed both Ali (7) and Dattani it was down to Scott Davies (1no) and Richard Curtis (7no) to block out the remaining overs for a draw.
