The first truly global race took place over the weekend with over 34,916 participants in 34 countries taking part in Wings for Life.

The event raised money to fund research into spinal cord injuries.

Harpenden Arrows’ Hannah Turner took part in the UK race at Silverstone alongside former F1 driver Mark Webber.

She said: “All the races start at the same time and the rules are that the finish line chases you in the form of two cars so the faster you run the further you run.

“The chase cars start 30 minutes after the race and speed up every 15 minutes. When the car passes you your race is over.”

The chase car didn’t manage to catch Hannah until she had completed 36.23km, beating Webber and placing her as the fourth fastest lady in the UK and 42nd against 10,000 competing ladies across the world.

“This was something different and fun race, I will definitely come back next year, the atmosphere was great and the support was amazing,” added Turner.

The Milton Keynes marathon also took place on Bank holiday Monday with a number of Arrows running. Warrick Raath (3:03) led the team in, followed by Justin Busby (4:05), Simon Townsend (4:05), Stephen Chaston (3:50), Graham Harper (4:24), Joanne Richards (4:24), Jamie Davies (5:21) and Camilla Davidson (3:06), who was third lady overall. Taking part in the half marathon was Patricia Collis who finished in 1hr 42mins.

Elsewhere, Sarah Chilvers ran the New Forest 60 miler and came in sixth place.
