Striders’ women’s teams won the Fred Hughes 10 mile race, the annual run organised by the club.

This year flooding along the usual route meant that the course had to be changed at the last minute, but the race proceeded flawlessly with 662 finishers of whom 54 were Striders. Around 70 members were also involved in staging and marshalling the race to ensure that it proceeded without a hitch.

The overall male winner was Daniel Woodgate of Luton AC and the first female was Sophie Delderfield from Vale of Aylesbury AC.

St Albans Striders women’s team, comprising Heather Blamire-Brown, Laura Duffy, Vicky Swarbrick and Jenni Johnston, won the women’s team prize and the Striders women’s vets team of Deborah Steer, Claire Kremer, Wendy Walsh and Paula Legge were also first. The Striders men’s team were second.

Striders also picked up a number of individual prizes with Paul Adams coming third overall. Heather Blamire Brown was the third female in the seniors, Claire Kremer was first female vet 35 and Deborah Steer was second female vet 45. Peter Crowdell finished 1st vet 40.
