Archant

Verulamians produced arguably their best performance of the season as they beat Old Millhillians 50-0 at Cotlandswick.

The win came despite the wet, cold and blustery conditions that would normally have dictated a game fraught with errors.

But for some reason this spurred Vees to produce some scintillating, cohesive and mistake-free rugby.

The forwards also contributed with a momentum and tenacity that ensured the team remained on the front foot.

By half-time Vees had raced into a 31-0 lead with Tom Baker, Sam Townsend, Sam Allen, Alex Ricci and Ben Russell scoring tries.

Russell also added three conversions.

And there was no let-up after the restart with Sam Crowne, Sam Townsend and a second for Ricci adding to the try count.

Russell slotted another two conversions between the posts to bring up the half-century and bonus point success.

Vees will hope to continue this good run of form when they travel to Bank of England on Saturday.

The second XV completed a good day for the club with a 22-0 victory over Berkhamsted in the Herts Merit Table.

They are also away on Saturday with a trip to Harpenden.
