OA Saints are four games away from perfection after finishing 2014 with a 27-20 win over Ashford.

The Saints have won 10 games from 10 this season and will be top of the Championship 2SE table when the calendar turns to 2015. Blackheath, who they have beaten twice, are their closest rivals but sit 14 points back meaning Saints need one more win to wrap up the title.

OAs will have the chance to take the title on home turf, when they entertain Hampstead on January 11 at Woollams.

The Saints set up the opportunity to clinch the title with three games to spare with Sunday’s bonus-point win over Ashford. Despite having their Christmas party the night before, OAs started quickly and Claire McKenna went over. Katie Robertson missed the conversion but her opposite number kicked an penalty and then added the extras to a try to put Ashford in front.

McKenna levelled arrears with her second try before Ange Wadham scored a brace of her own to put OAs 20-10 up. Ashford hit back after the break but Nicky Cameron killed the contest with Saints’ fifth try. Robertson kicked her first conversion of the day to ensure Saints’ remained perfect.

Ashford did close the gap to seven points, earning a losing bonus-point, but OAs ran out winners.

• Forward of the match was new player Ciara Scott, on loan from Cambridge University.

• Back of the match was scrum-half Maddie Gunnell.
