RFU Women's Premiership Two Blaydon 12 OA Saints 10 OA SAINTS went down to their third league defeat of the season when they made the long trip north to Blaydon on Sunday. The home side came out firing and opened the scoring with a converted try after some early pressure. Saints then responded and Linda Riel chased her kick forward to set up a quick ruck which sucked in their defence. The ball was shipped out wide to Helen Owen who ran past three Blaydon players to score an unconverted try in the corner. Saints then felt hard done by as the referee allowed Blaydon to use all means possible to disrupt the play. The pressure was constant in the Saints half but the defence held out until just before half time when the home team scored their second try. The second half was played in the Blaydon 22 with pressure for almost the whole second half from the Saints and they were determined to close the second point deficit. Blaydon though seemed to use any method, foul or fair, to ensure that the Saints did not get over the line. Against all the odds a rare penalty was awarded to the Saints for Blaydon not retreating and from this a ruck was formed. Bex Todd then passed blind to sub Chloe Allcorn who crashed over the line. This was unconverted and the whistle promptly blew early. The defeat in Newcastle moved chasing Blaydon into third spot behind Saints. The next league match for OA is on Sunday, February 19 against Richmond II's. The OA Angels, the development side for OA Saints, recorded a 22-5 win over Hertford on Saturday. OA Saints: P. Chandler, N. Brannon, S. Jellis, L. Ryan, A. Murray, L. Riel, C. Botterman, H. Clark (T. Beasent), B. Todd, S. Mills (N. Granger), B. Ellis, A. Burford, K. Page, H. Owen (C. Allcorn), K. Barnes(A. Lambert).
