Tabard 24 Hampstead 8

STAND off Jack Reilly scored 19 points to inspire Tabard to victory at home to Hampstead on Saturday.

Reilly was quickly into his stride kicking an early penalty after Hampstead were penalised for going over the top in a ruck.

After this the game settled down into a pattern with Hampstead trying to run the ball wide and fast and Tabard playing the more controlled game using centres Michael Thomas and Joe Cunningham to break through their opponents defence. With both sides tackling hard the scene was set for a very defensive encounter.

The teams exchanged penalty kicks and just before half time Tabard broke through to score the first try. Thomas got clear before he was hauled down but Tabard were in support and wing Dan Ashcroft took the ball before passing to Reilly for the try which he duly converted to make the score 13-3 at the break.

In the second half, despite some good rugby from Tabard, the scores did not come although Thomas had another searing break which almost took him over the line. Instead it was down to Reilly to kick two more penalties.

Hampstead replied with a try for full back but any hope they had of snatching a result was soon extinguished when Reilly initiated the try of the game. From loose play 10 metres from his own line he carved his way through the Hampstead defence and set off upfield before passing to Roberts, who then ran 60 metres to touch down for the try. The final score was 24-8 to Tabard.

The Radlett side travel to UCS Old Boys on Saturday before hosting Twickenham on Saturday, November 8 at Cobden Hill.

Tabard: Roberts, Fleuren (Cooper 74), Cunningham, Thomas, Ashcroft, Reilly, Murphy, Collette, Baker (Ray 69), Gough, Sio, Gill (Robertson 62), O'Connor, Matheson, Stoba.
