Verulamians' perfect season in Herts Middlesex One continued with a convincing 44-21 win over Hendon.

The win makes if five straight successes for the Cotlandswick-based rugby club and they lead the division by four points from London French.

Vees ran in a total of six tries with George Harding and Darren Westhead both scoring twice.

Sam Townsend and Ross Graham got the others while Harding also added 14 points with the boot.

That said it was Hendon who opened the scoring with a converted try in the first few minutes and at half-time they were only 20-14 down with a try in the latter stages of the first period.

Harding with two penalties and a jinky, individual try had put Vees in front and Westhead had stretched that advantage in between the two visiting scores.

A leg injury to centre Joe Seymour had caused some concern in the Verulamians camp but with half backs Cameron Craig and Harding, plus an ever increasing driving physical presence of the front eight, Vees were able to run away with it in the second half.

The best score was saved for the final 10 minutes with Harding and Westhead linking up superbly to put the latter in.

Hendon’s third try was a mere consolation.

Vees are next in league action in two weeks when they travel to Hillingdon Abbots on October 22.

The 2nds suffered a 44-5 reverse Amersham & Chesham while the 3rds went to a much narrower, and much more creditable, 17-5 loss to Berkhamsted.
