THE Men in Black cruised to victory at Datchworth in the EDF Energy Senior Vase Second Round clash on Saturday.

The reshuffled Harpenden side set about the game with a quick pace and new scrum half Healey took a quick tap penalty and dived over the line to score. Jack Haddock converted before Datchworth replied with a penalty.

Harpenden responded well and, with Matt Peck throwing well and adding weight to the front row, the pack provided good ball for the backs. Joe Tennant created lots of space for his centres Rob Humphrey and Jimmy Speirs who crashed through the middle, gaining hard yards. This gave the Men in Black great field position and it was only a matter of time before Karl Wilkinson touched down for the second try of the game.

Datchworth started to run the ball well before half time but some great defence and hard hits from Harmer and Danny Adams denied the opposition.

After the break, the Men in Black continued to dominate around the park and some good build-up play and organisation from Kearnsy saw the ball get out to Haddock who showed great speed to finish off an exciting try.

The next try came soon after, as Man of the Match Joe Tennant kicked the ball through a flat Datchworth defence to see young Speirs pick up and score his second try in two games, making the score 22-3.

Harpenden lost Adams to a hamstring injury and Harmer also picked up a knock, with Dan Tennant and Jack Cornthwaite coming on as replacements. The duo made a positive impact and from a good scrum, Haddock scored a well-worked try. He converted to make the score 29-3.

Harpenden rounded off a fine display when Healey beat two defenders to score his second try of the game, making the final score 34-3 and giving the selectors a headache for the return to league action at home to UCS Old Boys on Saturday. Kick off is 3pm at Redbourn Lane.

Harpenden: W. Peck, M. Peck, G. Lewin, D. Harmer, D. Green, K. Wilkinson, D. Adams, J. Arrowsmith, R. Healey, J. Tennant, N. Childs, R. Humphrey, J. Speirs, J. Haddock, R. Kearns. Subs: A. Kiff, D. Tennant, J. Cornthwaite, A. Smith.

Harpenden II hit form to crush Enfield 77-5 with a strong display on Saturday.
