Tottonians 23 Harpenden 6

HARPENDEN's EDF Senior Vase campaign came to a disappointing end with a 23-6 defeat to Tottonians.

The pitch was soft underfoot and swirling winds meant it became a game predominately controlled by the forwards. The first 15 minutes set the pattern of play with plenty of penalties given and several forward confrontations.

Tottonians opened the scoring when Robbie Searle slotted home a penalty from 30 metres out. The visitors drew level with a penalty converted out on the left tramline but the home side regained the lead when Harpenden were penalised for a high tackle. The first try of the match went to the home side following a five-metre scrum.

The Harpenden defence rallied well and Tottonians were reduced to 14 men just before the interval. Harpenden made the most of their one man advantage after the break enjoying their best spell of the game but they couldn't break through.

More penalties followed but the wind made it difficult for both teams' kickers to find the target before Tottonians crossed the line for the final score of the game.

Harpenden will be looking to get back to winning ways next weekend when they return to London North West 3 action with Twickenham the visitors to Redbourn Lane.
