Harpenden’s Andy Farrell chooses Saracens over England

ANDY Farrell has chosen to remain in his position as first team coach at Saracens RFC for the foreseeable future, turning down the opportunity to join England’s backroom staff.

He had been a key part of the England coaching staff during the Six Nations championship.

However, the 36-year-old will not join newly confirmed England boss Stuart Lancaster in accepting a permanant position with the national side.

Speaking on Saracens’ website, Farrell, who lives in Harpenden, said: “It has been a special privilege for me to be involved in the Saracens coaching staff for the past two-and-half seasons.

“We have made decent progress during this period but, in truth, as a club, we have barely scratched the surface of our potential.

“The job isn’t anywhere near half done, and I have decided I want to help finish the job.”
