TABARD got their new season off to a good start on Saturday with a fine win against London New Zealand at Cobden Hill in London League North West Three.

Not only was the game exciting one to watch but both sides showed great flair and in the end it was Tabard's superb tackling that proved the difference.

Tabard scrum half Andrew Murphy set up the first try with a quick penalty tap before passing to wing Chris Beadle who scored. Stand off Jack Reilly kicked the conversion and then added a penalty goal after an infringement on Tabard wing Dan Ashcroft.

Tabs added another try as a speculative kick into the box was fumbled and centre Kyle Van Deventer kick and chased before gathering for the score which Reilly converted. Reilly added another penalty to put Tabard 20 points clear.

Flanker Misa responded with a try for London New Zealand and stand off Koia added the conversion reducing their half time deficit to 20-7.

In the second half prop Vaa went over for an unconverted try as the Kiwis turned up the heat. Tabard responded and another penalty from Reilly kept the scoreboard moving.

The second half was characterised by excellent defending, the highlight of which was a try-saving tackle from Van Deventer under the posts.

Tabs also exhibited their fair share of attacking flair and Ashcroft crossed for a fine try to keep the Radlett side in command.

Kiwi full back Milne added a fine attacking try which was converted by Koia but this was their last fling and Tabard had opened with a fine victory 28-19.

Tabard: Roberts, Beadle, Thomas, Van Deventer, Ashcroft, Reilly, Murphy, Baker, Mitchell, Gough, Sio, O'Connor, Calnan, Stoba, Davies (Smith 2).
