Ex-Harpenden junior pens new deal with reigning champions

FORMER Harpenden RFC youngster Owen Farrell has signed a new contract with Saracens.

Farrell has made 46 appearances for the Aviva Premiership champions racking up 603 points. His form for the Woollams-based outfit earned the Wigan-born back a call-up to the England squad for their Six Nations campaign making his debut in the opening game against Scotland landing a conversion and two penalties as England triumphed 13-6.

Farrell, who is the son of Saracens and England coach Andy Farrell and attended St George’s School in Harpenden, then kicked 14 points as England beat Italy 19-15 in Rome in their second game.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said: “Owen obviously has a wonderfully exciting future in the game, at club and international level, and we are delighted he has pledged his future to Saracens.”

The length of the 20-year-old’s new contract has not been disclosed by Saracens.
