Don Barrell was awarded man of the match for Old Albanian after Saturday’s 49-30 loss to Ealing Trailfinders.

The former Bedford Blues and Saracens no.8 was presented the award, sponsored by Billy’s Bar and Restaurant, by St Albans’ mayor Geoff Harrison.

Head coach Andy Holloway said: “He played well. He did what he’s good at: made himself a nuisance at the breakdown and defended well.”

He also praised the play of Elliot Reader, Chris May and Billy Johnson but it was Barrell who claimed the bottle of champagne
