HARPENDEN Rovers continued their surge up the Herts Senior County Division One table with a 5-2 win away at Hinton.

Rovers travelled with a strong team, and it did not take long to establish control on the game, with Matt Chugg, Graham Golds and Kieren Adams running the Hinton midfield in to the ground.

After 20 minutes Golds slid the ball to Chris Jenkinson who calmly slotted under the advancing keeper. Rovers had a small lapse of concentration which allowed Hinton to equalise from a set piece.

This spurred Rovers on and within five minutes Adams had a simple tap in for Rovers to regain the lead. With Rovers in complete control it was no surprise that they scored another, when David Bounds beat the last defender only to be upended in the box. Skipper Chugg blasted home from the spot, to give Rovers a 3-1 lead at half time.

Rovers carried on the good performance into the second half, and shortly after the break scored a fourth again through Adams.

It was an excellently worked goal, with the yet again outstanding Neil Cannons supplying the cross. Bounds then netted the fifth to finish off the contest, but Hinton pulled one back in the dying minutes when they were awarded a hotly contested penalty.

Stalwarts Foster and Fox also put in outstanding performances and Rovers will be confident of another win on Saturday when they travel to basement side Bedwell Rangers.

Team: Goodwin, Hamer (Ellis 77), Cannons, Smith, Foster, Fox, Chugg, Golds, Adams (Williams 64), Jenkinson (Coogan 69), Bounds.
