Tabard 40 Chiswick 17

TABARD'S stand off Jack Reilly kicked 20 points on Saturday and both hooker Martin O'Neill and fullback Stephen Jenkins scored two tries each as Tabard played excellent rugby, in the blustery conditions, to earn victory over Chiswick.

Chiswick started slowly and Tabard had much the better of the first 10 minutes culminating in O'Neil's first try.

From a Chiswick line out close to the try line, Chiswick fumbled over their own line and O'Neill fell on the loose ball for a great opportunist try.

Reilly added the long conversion to put Tabard seven points ahead.

This score seemed to galvanise Chiswick and they at last got their game together and quickly hit back at Tabard with a drop goal from stand off Luckmam.

Generally Chiswick then had the best of the territory but Tabard's defence never faltered and their tenacity was rewarded by a succession of penalties, with three within kicking distance, which Reilly converted, to put Tabard 16 points to three ahead at the turn round.

Tabard were quickly into their stride in the second half and scored almost immediately. Number eight Scott Stoba picked up at the base of the scrum, fed scrum half Andy Murphy who made ground before putting Jenkins away for the score which Reilly converted.

Chiswick then set up an attack of their own but the winger kicked away from the defensive cover and Reilly caught the ball cleanly, committed the hapless kicker before passing to Jenkins who had the pace to sprint in the 60 metres for the try with Reilly again converting.

Chiswick then got a try of their own. After pressurizing the Tabard line their number eight, Pickering picked up in an offside position and touched down for the try which was allowed. Centre Duffy converted.

Tabard kept themselves well ahead however with O'Neil's second try.

This time Chiswick made a mess of a 22 drop out and O'Neill kicked the loose ball clear, before following up and falling on it over the line. Reilly added the conversion.

Before the close of play Chiswick got a fine try, the result of some slick passing, with fullback Hammond claiming the try and Duffy converting.

Reilly had the last word however, when he slotted over a final penalty when Chiswick had tackled high and this brought the final score to 40 points to 17 in Tabard's favour.

There is no Tabard game next week and they are away to Finchley on the 28th November.

Tabard: Jenkins, Ashcroft, K Murphy, Thomas, Hopcroft, Reilly, A Murphy, Collette, O'Neill, Gough, Kidd, O'Connor, Calnan, Hall, Stoba.

Tabard's second team lost out to their St Albans counterparts 37-0 in a friendly last Saturday.
