AT the Hertfordshire cricket league annual dinner last weekend Redbourn Cricket Club picked up the award for club of the year.

Redbourn won the Division Four title and completed a spectacular league and cup double by winning the Hertfordshire knock-out County Trophy. Redbourn II finished just outside the promotion slots in their second year in Division Seven and Redbourn III, playing in only their second season, won the Division 13 title by some margin. Redbourn Chairman, Graeme Smyth, was delighted. He said: "The outstanding season we have had is the result of several years of hard work into the infrastructure of the club. We also have a new pavilion, an excellent wicket and the junior section continues to go from strength to strength.

"Before this year, no Redbourn junior side has ever reached the end of season Hertfordshire County knock out finals. This year the Under 11s won their area league and reached the semi-finals, the Under 10s made it through to their semi-finals and the Under 9s lost by three runs in the final. Most importantly we gave more than 150 boys and girls an opportunity to play cricket in a safe and enjoyable environment."
