REDBOURN succumbed to defeat on Saturday against Potters Bar 2s.

Having successfully chased down 189 against Stevenage seven days previously, Redbourn skipper Ben Roe backed his team to repeat the feat and inserted Bar after winning the toss.

The plan did not start as planned as Tom Pett (42) and Tom Coughlan (31) put on 80 runs before the latter was trapped leg before by George Naismith. His opening partner fell soon after, Matt Cramer running out Pett.

At 86-2 David Pett (41) and Charlie Hodge (26) pushed the score up to 150 before Redbourn took a flurry of wickets.

Pett was the first to go, LBW to Geoff Tookey, before Hodge was caught by Naismith off Jon Simpson’s bowling. And when Dan Brown (3) joined them in the clubhouse, Bar’s innings was balanced precariously at 160-5.

Two more wickets fell before the 200 mark – Luke Owers (10) and Bradley Swaile (11) but Michael Palmer (26) and Thilan Wallalawita (52no) routinely found the rope to push Bar’s score to 260 before skipper Hodge declared.

Redbourn’s innings started in similar fashion to Bar’s as James Bunce (45) and Naismith (49) put up 78 runs for the first wicket.

Naismith and Gary Sandford (39) reached 121 before the former was caught by Hodge off Wallalawita, who went on to snare six wickets and Tookey (0) came and went, only facing three balls.

Redbourn reached were in a good position but two collapses in the 150s and 170s saw them fall 71 runs shy of the target.

Sandford and Roe both went with the score on 150 and eight runs later both Chris Godfrey (14) and Daniel Roe (3) were dismissed as the innings reached 158-7.

Cramer (7) and Darren Bassill (9) batted on but both were removed with the score on 175. Simpson (13) and Jon Flemming (1) resisted for another 14 runs before Wallalawita took his final wicket to seal a win for Bar.
