Redbourn held on to their lead at the top of SHCL Division Three A after a draw with Berkhamsted – but will be left wondering about what might have been.

They came 15 runs short of victory by the time their innings had come to an end and but for a better start would have surpassed that.

Berkhamsted won the toss and elected to bat with their top eight all made steady if unspectacular progress, all reaching double figures.

However, the fact David Smith’s 28 was the highest score prevented them from setting a mammoth total.

In the end they were all-out for 199.

Callum Moyle was again the pick of the bowlers following up his four-wicket haul last week with five more this.

His figures of 5-40 were his best of the year but well-supported by Adam Pritchard (3-31) and Alex Salter (2-19).

Redbourn’s nervous start saw them reduced to 38-3 before George Naismith and Dan Roe set about restoring some pride.

Some brilliant batting brought up a 129-run partnership with Naismith the first to go for a solid 52.

Captain Roe batted on through Redbourn’s innings; however his 83 was in vain as his three new partners all went for single digits.

They finished on 185-7 after their 50 overs ending the game in a draw.

The 2nds moved to third in Division Six A with a 59-run home win over London Colney.

Batting first Redbourn reached 222-7 in 51 overs before declaring.

Richard Blair top-scored with 59, with Dan Lennox close behind on 54.

Richard Cann’s quick-fire 30 from 39 balls finished the innings and the bowler then turned his attention to skittling the Colney attack.

And he did so in fine style, ending the day with 5-37 from 13 overs, which included four maidens.

James Colenutt took three and Darren Bassill two as Colney were bowled out for 168 in the 42nd over.

It means the 2nds are now just 28 points behind Kings Langley 2nds as the promotion race hots up.
