JONATHAN McLean put in a captain’s innings to steer Radlett to their 13th win of the season.

Batting first and coming in at number three, the skipper scored 74 runs to put his side on the front foot and help them set a target that Hemel got nowhere near.

After Joe Cooke (4) was clean bowled early in the innings, Fraser Crawford and McLean set about building a foundation for the innings. The pair crafted a 64-run partnership before Crawford was caught.

Wickets began to fall at regular intervals but McLean was the driving force of the innings, partnering Shane Burger (7), Rob Clements (9) and Tom Jenkins (19), before he was beaten by a ball from Nick Hodgins.

Having helped Radlett reach 179-6, Chad Barrett (21) and Matt Creese (28) took over the impetus set by McLean and pushed the score beyond 220. Harry Will (12) and Neil Lederman (6no) did the final leg work to set Hemel a target of 242 to win.

Hemel’s openers Brett Penny and Hemish Ilangaratne (30) gave the visitors’ a solid start, putting 72 runs on the board for the first wicket. Ilangaratne’s dismissal brought Hitesh Patel to the crease but he was gone for nought, the first of four ducks in the order.

Joshua Graves (20) to the crease and he took over where the opener left off, pushing the score past 100. However, five wickets for no runs with the score on 111 all but resigned Hemel to defeat.

Burger took one of the wickets while Clements (6-23) cleaned up the other four to leave Hemel reeling at 111-9. A plucky 11 from Jack Doodson took the score to 124 before Blesson Ghoghe (1) was the 10th and final wicket, sealing a 117-run defeat.

Radlett’s championship winning campaign comes to an end of Saturday away at Sawbridgeworth, 11am start.
