RADLETT slipped up with the bat as they went down to their second defeat of the season in the Home Counties Premier League Division One on Saturday.

Bowler Felix Walker starred for Radlett claiming 7-49 in 18 overs but was not backed up by the batting as Tring Park claimed the victory.

Play was delayed due to rain and it was after lunch when Radlett skipper Shane Burger won the toss and inserted the visitors in seamer friendly conditions. Openers Matthew Bowyer (27) and Gareth Steptoe (13) and number three Keith Dutch (31) made important contributions along with number five George Harper (26). Bowler Walker showed fantastic control and swing as he proved the star of the show Radlett outfit and skipper Shane Burger took two wickets with Paul Barker claiming one victim as Tring were all out for 124.

In reply, Radlett lost opener James Lewis when he got caught behind and Atul Sachdeva soon followed. Tring then continued their form with skipper Burger trapped after tea for a duck. Opener Steve Lowe and Middlesex youngster Kabir Toor (19) looked comfortable as they moved the score on to 63-3. Lowe (32) edged a turning delivery to slip and Toor (19) soon followed when he was run out at the non strikers end.

The impressive Barker (20 not out) could not save Radlett as Tring professional Keith Dutch quickly struck out the tail and Radlett were all out for 87.

Disappointed Radlett skipper Shane Burger said: "It is obviously very disappointing when you have bowled and fielded really well to restrict a team to 124. Our batting was just not good enough and we will need to raise our game if we want to get back in the running for the top spot."

Radlett travel to Falkland on Saturday before hosting champions Oxford at Cobden Hill on Saturday, July 5.

Radlett II were frustrated at Old Finchleians on Saturday in Division Two of the Saracens Herts League after winning the toss on a damp pitch but largely dry day.

After electing to bowl first, Radlett soon struggled with a ball that became damp and struggled to oppose the impressive batting of the Depala twins as OFs reached 239-8 off 53 overs. Heath Paynter picked up 5-48 off 14 overs and Stuart Browne and Simon Jackson each claimed one wicket.

In reply, Radlett were held up by high quality spells of bowling from the Depala twins with their combined figures of 6-78 off 27 overs.

The pick of the Radlett batting was once again Johnny Barr with 55 not out as the effort turned to picking up as many bonus points as possible. Richard Cameron (38) and Jim Chaudry (37) also contributed as Radlett reached 188-6 off 47 overs to secure the draw. Skipper Nick Fielden said: "Sometimes you come up against sides with a couple of high quality players and they perform on the day. The Depalas were very impressive and I hope Old Finchleians can give them the higher level of cricket that they could play. I'm pleased with the effort we showed though and most weeks I am confident that our depth with bat and ball will be enough to get us across the line."

Radlett IV had to settle for a draw at home to Abbots Langley II in Division Six on Saturday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Radlett posted 233-6 and declared after 51 overs. Openers Matthew Bell (75) and Giles Mitchell (45) led the way before Zahur Gitay (54) and Ben Charles (24 not out) hit out.

In reply, the visitors battled on to 148-9 off 49 overs as Radlett just failed to claim the final wicket needed for victory. Richard Hardy picked up 5-44 off 15 overs for Radlett and Neil Lederman took 3-25 off 10 overs.

Radlett V took a young side to Codicote in Division 11 on Saturday and suffered a 10 wicket defeat.

The weather could have intervened but play went ahead. Radlett lost the toss and were asked to bat on a springy slightly wet track with a wettish outfield.

Opener Shabbir Foyez did an excellent job with a controlled innings of 34, Vikram Rajput powered his way to 28 not out and Brendan Jones (16) also contributed.

Codicote bowled well and the pitch provided lively bounce with batsman not reading the line the innings folded in the 35th over for only 106 runs.

Codicote openers seemed to bat freely and hit a total of 20 boundaries with hardly any running between the wickets to earn their victory on 110-0.

Radlett need to recover by playing competitively when they go away to Hertingfordbury II on Saturday.
