Radlett are ready for the final of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League Playoffs – after securing a narrow four wicket win over Harpenden in the semi-final.

The match was postponed on Saturday due to the heavy rain that affected most of Hertfordshire.

But with glorious sunshine bathing Cobden Hill the following day, Radlett were able to push past their near neighbours, reaching their target with just eight balls to spare.

After finishing the season at the top of the table, skipper Kabir Toor was pleased that their season had not come to a premature end.

He said: “It was a very good game but everything worked out nicely.

“We had a memorial game on the bottom field on Sunday so when Saturday was rained off it meant we had a lot of people there to watch us.

“The rain delay affected us as there were some players available on Saturday who couldn’t play Sunday.

“That meant getting other people to play at short notice. But the ones that came in played very well.”

Harpenden won the toss and elected to bat, a decision which they may have regretted.

Ben Ledermann took the wicket of Jake Pankhurst after five balls and by the 21st over Harpenden were on 75-5.

Harpenden rallied thanks to 69 from Scott Galloway and 41 from Simon White but they were eventually all out for 226.

Maaz Sheth starred with the ball, taking 4-34.

Radlett’s reply was steady with Fraser Crawford, Joe Cooke and Toor all making good scores.

But with their run rate approaching eight inside the final 10 overs, it took quick-fire scoring from Tom Jenkins (37*) and Troy Barrett (35) to get Radlett across the finishing line.

Welwyn Garden City provide the opposition in Saturday’s final, one which should be a tough encounter.

In their two meetings this season the sides have picked up a win each.

Jon Jon Smuts inspired Radlett to a crushing 10-wicket win in the first clash, smashing 152 from 106 balls.

But despite 123 from Jon Cooke in the return, WGC got the victory, winning by three wickets.

Toor said: “The first game wasn’t so tight as our overseas player knocked it all over the park. But the second one was close.

“They are a good team and a good bunch. I always enjoy playing them.”

The game, which will be played at Cobden Hill tomorrow (Saturday), starts at 11am.
