SHAFTESBURY Barnet Harriers took victory in the St Albans Cross County Relays on Saturday.

The 53rd running of the race was blessed with glorious weather and Shaftesbury Barnet took the opportunity to shine, claiming the lead on the second leg and storming home four minutes clear of the field.

Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers: Tom Bedford (14:28), Neil Gamester (14:24), James Trapmore (14:19), Orlando Edwards (14:23), Matt Sullivan (14:43) and Ronan Breen (15:16).

Harrow AC took second with Hillingdon AC third and hosts, Herts Phoenix, in fourth place.

Herts Phoenix: Richard Tarpey (15:20), Chris Saville (16:41), Andrew Benson (15:40), Paul Greaves (15:56), Lee Reynolds (14:01) and Matt Carlisle (15:11).

The fastest lap was by Neilson Hall (13:46) of Bedford & County, who was on the first leg.

In the ladies race Barnet & District eventually ran out as winners, receiving the new ladies trophy. Ealing, Southall & Middlesex finished second with St Albans Striders a close third.

St Albans Striders: Deborah Steer (18:35), Sarah Fensome (18:15), Gill Jubb (19:14) and Lucey Waterlow (17:41).

Fastest lap went to Emma Grant of Hillingdon AC, who ran 17.07 on the first leg.
