Lost in the furore of St Albans City’s incredible run of form has been the man in the middle of the park, Ram Marwa.

Since rejoining the club from Ebbsfleet, six years after his first spell at Clarence Park, Marwa was integral to the club’s 11 game unbeaten run that ended at the hands of Mansfield Town in the FA Cup.

The 8-1 loss to the League Two side is Marwa’s only loss this season as a Saint.

While the likes of James Comley, David Keenleyside, Richard Graham and Chris Watters have been on the end of high praise for their play, and rightly so, it has been Marwa’s presence that has unlocked the potential of his midfield compatriots.

Sitting in front of the back four, Rambo, as his manager referred to him after the 4-0 win over Tonbridge Angels, has consistently won first and second balls, broken up play, headed clear danger and started attacks.

In turn, this has allowed the likes of Graham and Comley to push further up the field and showcase the creative play that spawns headlines, pictures and space in the newspaper.

“Ram has been a gem of a signing,” City’s joint manger James Gray told the Herts Ad.

“He’s gone about his work so quietly really. He’s a quiet lad all round; he’s not trying to get his picture in the paper and he’s been a superb signing for us.

“He has probably missed out on a lot of accolades so far but since he’s come in we’ve lost one game so if we can keep him in there then we have a chance.

“Other teams will be worried about us thinking ‘Here comes St Albans’ and that’s a good place to be because momentum will get us over the line.”

Marwa will be looking to keep his 100 per cent league record intact on Saturday when City travel to Weymouth.

St Albans City is putting on a supporters’ coach to Weymouth for the Calor League Premier Division game on Saturday, December 7.

The coach will depart at 9.30am from the Clarence Park entrance to the ground. Since the coach has a limited number of seats available, anyone going should book as early as possible.

To reserve seats, call Ian Rogers on 07714 145862. The cost is £20.
