East League Division Three South West
Blueharts III 2 Harpenden II 4
HARPENDEN II kept on track for promotion with a relatively comfortable, if less than efficient, victory against strugglers Blueharts III on Saturday.
The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes when a short corner was switched to Russell Timms, who nearly broke the backboard with a ferocious finish.
Sam Martyn continued his fine run from short corners with a crisp strike into the corner on 25 minutes and, when youngster Ollie Moore set Nigel Timms free, he unleashed a tremendous drive into the top corner.
After the break, Harpenden eased off and Blueharts struck twice to bring some tension back to the contest.
Jolted in to action, Harpenden struck the crucial fourth. A Martyn short corner struck a foot on the line, resulting in a penalty flick. Skipper Kneale stepped up and beat the keeper for 4-2.
Harpenden closed the game out relatively comfortably to register their 13th win of the season and remain four points clear of third-placed Winchmore Hill & Enfield.
