ST ALBANS City FC have confirmed admission prices are to rise in order to help maintain the club’s playing budget at an ‘appropriate level’.

A statement on the club website from interim chairman Nick Archer, who has taken over the position after previous chairman Ian Ridley resigned earlier this week, advised entrance fees will go up as of Saturday, December 8, when the Saints host Leamington Town.

Ridley stated on Twitter that his exit was partly due to proposals to up the ticket prices.

Admission is currently 10 for adults and 5 for concessions, the actual amount of the increase has yet to be announced.

Archer said: “We have noted speculation on social media about an increase in admission prices, I can tell you that such was discussed at the most recent board meeting, along with many other fundraising ideas, with the essential requirement to increase revenues into the club at a critical stage of the season.

“I have to advise that gate prices will be raised from the Leamington Town game in a fortnight’s time, a further statement will be made shortly to confirm the details.

“Although this may be seen as an unusual and unprecedented step the board are keen to maintain the playing budget at an appropriate level with the aim of securing the best possible squad and position in the league and at the same time ensuring the future financial stability of the club.”

In regards to Ridley leaving the club, Archer added: “On a personal note I would like to thank Ian for his hard work and leadership during his tenure as chairman of St Albans City FC.

“No doubt there will be speculation as to the reasons for his departure.

“Whilst we have tried to communicate openly with supporters and to keep you fully informed of the progress of the club, it will be appreciated that what goes on in the boardroom should remain inside those four walls and thus it is not our intention to make any further comment.”

The Saints host Chippenham Town at Clarence Park on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
