The medal was her highest achievement to date, which includes winning the British Championships.

The 14-year-old was the youngest in the cadet class, which is for fighters aged under 18.

Platten fought hard to beat her European opponents with impressive ippon throws booking her place in the quarter-finals. Her tournament ended in the final eight where she lost to Spain’s Rocio Garcia Torres, who picked up the silver medal.

Platten regrouped to fight through the Repechage, again with ippon throws, to set up a bronze-medal contest.

Trailing by five points with 30 seconds of the bout remaining, Platten threw Rosa Ferrer Marti to the mat to earn a place on the podium.
