HARPENDEN enjoyed a good solid start to the season with a 9-0 win against Warners End Badminton Club.
The first pairing of Roger Lever and Richard Kershaw had a close game to begin with winning 21-17, 22-20 and were resolute in their next two matches.
The second pairing of captain Chris Holland and Philbert Chan had to hold their nerve to win their final match in the deciding games 21-15, 20-22, 21-17.
Chandran Pillai and Guru Lota had just one close game and easily won their other two to ensure Harpenden made an emphatic start to the defence of their title.
