Harpenden Town 10 Bedford 1

HARPENDEN Town's fine run of form continued in spectacular fashion on Saturday with the 10-1 thrashing of Bedford.

With four wins on the bounce to their credit, Harpenden were guarding against complacency and welcomed new signing Nicolas Chapman who replaced the suspended Matt Armitage. Iaian Turkentine returned following his suspension last week and Harpenden also welcomed back Jimmy Warner who started on the bench.

Harpenden took the lead after 23 minutes when veteran Chris Gregory slotted home after a fantastic run down the right-hand side from Richard Taaffe, who drilled the ball across the box.

Bedford hit back to equalise five minutes later with a cross and simple finish after slack marking in the box.

On the half hour, Bedford went down to ten men due to foul and abusive language towards the linesman after a disputed offside decision.

Harpenden took this opportunity and pressed on straight away. The second goal was from Benny Dawes who nodded home a deft headed goal after a Turkentine cross.

Chris Gregory then tapped home before half time after a cross from James Ewington to make the score 3-1.

A few minutes into the second half, Town went 4-1 up after a scissor kick by Danny Jefferies. Manager Christian Garzarolli then put Joseph Burgess and Jimmy Warner on for David Keenleyside and Chris Gregory who had worked hard. Shortly after the changes, Turkentine went through on goal and craftily lobbed the oncoming 'keeper.

With the home fans enjoying the goal spree, Harpenden moved up another level. Daniel Jefferies got his second of the game with a composed finish after a Jimmy Warner square pass. Warner then decided to show what he can do with 30 minutes on the football pitch. A headed goal from a Ewington cross, followed by a top-corner finish and last touch in a goalmouth scramble completed a fine hat trick for Warner.

James Ewington rounded off the scoring when he got his deserved goal with a cool finish into the bottom corner to make the final score 10-1. Defenders Richard Taaffe, Michael Ross, Andrew Saul and Nicolas Chapman were solid at the back, allowing the Bedford attack no change during the game.

Manager Garzarolli praised the players and feels that with the quality youngsters at the club and the progress of the Under 18s the future looks bright for Town.

Harpenden Town's next match is away to Kings Langley in the League on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
