London Colney boxer Ollie Pattison has signed his professional contract.
London Colney boxer Ollie Pattison has his sights set on a July 4 debut after signing his professional contract this week.
The 24-year-old light heavyweight has taken the step up to the professional game, signing a deal with Goodwin Promotions, after an impressive amateur career that ended with a record of 42 wins from 53 contests.
His debut could be just two months away, with Steve Goodwin hinting at a July 4 bout against an as yet unnamed opponent.
Pattison is taking no chances with his debut and has booked a training camp in Europe to prepare. He is hoping it’s the first of many of his journey to the top of the spot, although he knows it’s a long, arduous path.
“I’m going to Turkey for camp – I haven’t been there before so I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“It’s a short career but also a long one because you can’t cut corners. I’ve got to take it step by step. Obviously my aim is to be world champion but I’m under no illusion that it takes a lot of hard work and there will be a lot of obstacles in my way.
“The first step is to get my first bout and win it.”
He added: “In my first two years I want to win two belts, the Southern Area and the International Masters, then, in the third year, I want to be challenging for the British and European belts.”
Pattison delayed the decision to turn professional in the past, instead waiting for the right time. That time is now and he admitted he’s ‘buzzing’ to have turned signed the contract.
“It was the right time,” he said. “I’d made up my mind at the start of the season, it was just about making that final step. I wanted to wait for the right promoter, the right deal and the right team. Once all of that was set up, I was happy to sign.”
Last year, Goodwin Promotions teamed up with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing to give fight fans more live boxing, a deal that will help Pattison get much-needed exposure as he takes the first steps in his career.
Alliance Intelligent Scaffolding will be helping him along the way, too. The Watford-based company announced this week that it has sponsored Pattison.
“Alliance are very proud to announce we are now official sponsors of London Colney boxer Ollie Pattison, who has launched his professional boxing career. We are delighted to be supporting him at this exciting point in his career,” the company posted on its Facebook page.
Pattison enters the professional ranks as a two-time London ABA Box Cup gold medallist and two-time London Champion.
