AMERICAN college pals Alan Glynn, of Porters Park, and Mike Beausejour, of Cincinnatti, on his first visit to this country, swept the board over the weekend as between them they collected the three trophies on offer at Moor Park and Porters Park.

First, Beausejour won the Herts Stag at Moor Park, then the next day Glynn won the King George V Coronation Cup at Porters Park and also collected the Hertfordshire Bowl for the best aggregate score from the two events.

Canadian-born Beausejour, invited by Glynn to stay with him and play in the major events of the two clubs, arrived two days before the Herts Stag on Saturday and after one practice round, and in conditions of continuous rain which he had never experienced, became the first overseas player to win the trophy, which was first played in 1933.

The two 21 year olds are on golf scholarships at Xavier University in Cincinnati and are members of the college team competing in inter-college tournaments, Glynn scratch and Beausejour plus 2.

"We palled up and became the best of friends but we are also fierce rivals, as a place in the team has to be earned and he has often beaten me in important tournaments," said Glynn. "I finished behind him in fourth place at Moor Park, but it was my turn on Sunday."

Beausejour shrugged off the conditions at Moor Park as he opened with a four under par 69 - five birdies, one bogey - to be a stroke behind first round leader Greg Schmidt of West Herts, with Glynn on 70, James Jankowski (Potters Bar) 73, Tom Shadbolt (Mid Herts), Nick Pateman (Porters Park) and Tyrone Carter (Welwyn Garden City) 74.

"It was certainly testing, more so when the wind started to blow in the afternoon," Beausejour said. I was thinking it's certainly crazy weather over here. I've just got to get used to it. I'd left home in 95 degrees wearing shorts and Alan had to get me a pair of trousers. I came over for a holiday, never thought I'd be taking back a trophy with a replica of a stag on it!"

He found it tougher in the afternoon, slipping to 75 for a 144 total, two under par, two ahead of Charlie Cossins (Bath), whose 71 to following 75 was the lowest afternoon score, and Greg Schmidt, who followed his five under par 68 - two eagles, five birdies, four bogeys - with 78, having a run from the 12th of a double bogey and three bogeys.

Laurence Allen (Brookmans Park) 76 72 and Alan Glynn, 70 78, tied fourth. Three shared sixth place - last year's winner Scott Fallon (Hendon), 75 74, L.Canter (Saltford) 76 73 and Nick Algate (Moor Park) 75 74.

After a first round of 73 on Sunday over his home course, to be three strokes off the lead, Alan Glynn found his touch in the afternoon, opening in fine style with two birdies and maintaining his form as he completed his round in four under par 66, one stroke short of the course record.

It gave him a total of 139 to win the King George V Coronation Cup by three strokes. and with his rounds of 70 78 in the Herts Stag at Moor Park, his 72- hole aggregate of 287 earned him a double victory as he won the Hertfordshire Bowl for the best combined score of the two events by five strokes.

Glynn's Porters Park clubmate Nick Pateman and Graham Povey (Brickendon Grange) tied with rounds of 71 71, for Pateman to claim runner-up spot in the Coronation Cup on a countback. Fourth was James Watts (East Herts) 70 74, and fifth was the home club's Luke Gutteridge 75 70 on a countback from James Jankowski (Potters Bar) 74 71 and Ryan Newman (Brookmans Park 73 72.

After his heroics at Moor Park, one practice round at Porters Park proved not enough for Beausejour to get to grips with the Porters Park course as he shot rounds of 75 74.

After his birdie, birdie opening to his second round, Glynn three-putted the short ninth but then eagled the 10th, finding the green with his approach and holing a 12ft putt. At the 11th he found a fairway bunker, having to hit out sideways, costing a bogey

After birdies at 12 and 13 he bogeyed 15, but birdied 16 from 16ft, his longest putt, and saved par at the last when he got up and down from a bunker and holed from 6ft for 66.

"That was a really great save to complete my round," he said.

Runner-up to Glynn in the Hertfordshire Bowl was Greg Schmidt, 75 71 to follow 68 78 for 292, third was Mike Beausejour, 75 74 to follow 69 75 for 293, fourth was Laurence Allen (Brookmans Park) 72 74 to follow 76 72 for 294 and fifth Nick Pateman 71 71 to follow 74 79 for 295.
