TWO golfers ended a 10-year wait for success as they won Aldwickbury Park Golf Club's inaugural Society Pairs Cup last week. Alan Miller and Andy Haines picked up their first piece of silverware after coming out on top of the 20 team four-ball-better-ball competition.

The pair returned to the clubhouse with 44 stableford points to win by one from Jeremy Harris and Paul Ingram, with Andrew Pack and Dominic Savage a further point back in third place.

It was a successful day all round and the club is looking to make it an annual event. Aldwickbury Park sales and marketing manager, Simon Folbigg, said: "We came up with the idea of this competition as a thank you to all those who have booked golf days with us throughout the year. It was the first time we've held this competition and it was a great success, everyone enjoyed themselves and there was plenty of banter over lunch and a drink in the clubhouse afterwards."

There were a couple of side competitions held on the day, with Lee Davis winning the Longest Drive with an effort of 248 yards on the par-4 10th and Michael Kavanagh picked up the prize for Nearest the Pin on the 17th hole after his tee shot rolled to within 12ft.
