RFUW Championship South One

OA Saints 51 Henley 10

OA Saints produced a strong performance to emphatically beat Henley on Sunday and claim their first win of the campaign.

Karina Page proved the star with a first half hat trick for Saints as they dominated the play.

Some great passing out of the tackles and close ball work allowed the forwards to work down the pitch and the backs were able to break clear at will, with Kim Stephens, Claire McKenna and CJ Hallett adding scores. A drop goal attempt from Sarah McKenna also fell short of the posts.

Henley profited when OAs lost concentration and discipline to score a try before the break and they added another after half time.

For most of the game, however, OAs defensive pattern was very well organised and hard tackles were put in by everyone on the pitch.

The forwards dominated the scrum, with superb effort from Forward of the Match Lou Allen and OAs gained a number of turnover balls by wheeling the scrum. There were also a number of breaks from the forwards including one from Cath Botterman on her first game back from injury which saw her make metres up the pitch. After taking a knee to the head, Sarah managed to break through the defence and score a well deserved try. Karina also scored her fourth try of the day.

The OAs backs scored all of the nine tries with Back of the Match Karina converting three. Credit must be given to the forwards whose hard work in and around the break down area and around the pitch created quick ball for Nicky Cameron to supply the backs.

OA Saints host the second annual Georgie Robinson Memorial Game when they face the British Army at Woollams on Saturday. The match is held in memory of OA Saint Georgie who was killed in a car accident in South Africa. OA rugby also host a number of other events on the day to raise money for The Rainbow Trust Children's Charity who provide practical and emotional support to families of terminally ill children.
