A MARTIAL Arts club in St Albans and Harpenden is helping youngsters make the grade with some action packed training.

Kaisho Ju-Jitsu Ryu classes take place at Crabtree Junior School in Harpenden and at Oakwood Junior School in St Albans. The martial art involves a mixture of karate, ju jitsu and kick-boxing techniques, training children aged six and above as well as adults. The training involves locks, throws, punching and kicking with various fun activities.

The students at the class in Harpenden have just taken their orange belt grading, a year after the club started 12 months ago. Herts County Cllr Bernard Lloyd, of Harpenden North East, went along to the anniversary celebrations to back the club and Sean Connley who runs the training said: "I have around 70 students and have great support. The training builds up confidence and many of the parents have commented to me that their children have been able to apply that confidence at school and in their daily lives. I am also setting up Ju Jitsu tigers for children aged three-to-six to develop life skills and leadership skills.
