OWEN Farrell captained England Under 16s to victory against Italy Under 17s in the Four Nations Tournament in France.

The St George's School pupil, from Harpenden, led England to a 12-3 win scoring a try in the process. Farrell's score was a good individual effort from 20 metres out, which was converted by fly half Tom Heathcote. The victory was a boost to the England side after they lost to Wales 13-12 in their opening fixture of the competition.

Inside centre Farrell was picked again as skipper for the final match against France on Wednesday and before the game, manager George Squires said: "The boys' tails are up now after their first win. They are young and they are learning all the time."

Farrell, aged 16, started all three England Under 16s matches in the inaugural Four Nations Tournament last season - which England won on home soil in the Midlands - and has repeated that feat as captain in this year's tournament based around Lyon in France.
