St Albans bells ring for Team GB gold winners

GREAT Britain’s first two gold medals of London 2012 have been celebrated in a unique way in St Albans – with the ringing of church bells.
St Albans Abbey’s carillon has rung out Chariots of Fire for the second time today to applaud gold medal wins by cyclist Bradley Wiggins in the men’s time trial, and rowing pair Heather Stanning and Helen Glover.
The Abbey’s administrator Heather Smith confirmed the cathedral bells would ring every time Great Britain won a gold medal.
However she said that those who won in the evening would be celebrated the following day, because of a lack of staff and “there is a limit to what time we can ring the bells”.
Vangelis’ Chariots of Fire will be played each time.
